
A colorful and flavorful lettuce salad of seasoned taco meat, tortilla chips, salsa, sour cream, cheese, tomatoes, and green onions

Taco Meat Ingredients:
2 pounds ground beef (80% lean)
2 large onions, chopped
2 green bell peppers, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tablespoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 tablespoon cumin*
Tapatio hot sauce, to taste
Taco Salad Ingredients:
lettuce, washed and torn
Fritos or other corn chips
shredded cheddar cheese
sour cream
fresh tomatoes, diced
green onions, chopped
More optional ingredients:
Black olives, sliced
Avocado, diced
Colored bell peppers, diced
homemade salsa
Fresh cilantro, chopped
Cooked pinto beans

1. Fry meat with onion, bell pepper and garlic. Drain grease, and then stir in chili powder, pepper, salt, cumin and Tapatio.
2. On plate, arrange a bed of lettuce. Layer chips, meat, cheese, sour cream, tomatoes, green onions, and any of the optional ingredients you have/want. Enjoy! :)


*I love to use freshly ground cumin for a robust flavor!

My rating: 10/10. This is one of my favorite meals. I especially like the seasoned meat. It tastes similar to the taco seasoning that is sold in little packets in the store; however, this homemade version is much cheaper and much healthier (no MSG!). This is the basic recipe for how we make our meat for tacos, enchiladas, nachos, and chili. It's really really good! :)
