Strawberry Banana Kefir Smoothie

A deliciously fruity kefir smoothie, perfect for a quick breakfast or snack!


1 large smoothie


1 large banana, broken into 4 chunks
1 cup frozen strawberries
1 cup kefir
stevia or other sweetener, optional

For more protein, you can also add in a scoop of protein powder (vanilla or unflavored soy or whey protein, which is sold for shakes)


1. Place banana, strawberries, kefir, and stevia (if using) into a blender.

2. Blend for a minute or two, until smooth. Pour into a large glass or two smaller glasses and enjoy!

This is our favorite, quick-and-easy kefir smoothie. We always have strawberries and bananas on hand (or at least, almost always!) and the flavors combine for a lovely fruity and healthy kefir smoothie! :)

I don't always add the stevia, especially if the banana is really ripe, but if you want a sweeter drink, the stevia works well. If we're having this for breakfast, I usually add the protein powder, so it holds us over until lunch. :)

Our children love this recipe, and we do too! My rating: 10/10


Our family has smoothies either for lunch or with lunch nearly every day. Each of us have our own personal favorite flavors. This is mine (though I don't measure - just a handful of strawberries, one banana, enough kefir for the right consistency, and the scoop of whey protein powder). Sometimes I add a bit of cashews pieces or a sprinkle of unsweetened shredded coconut, but I prefer just the basic delicious smoothie. :)


I haven't tried this but I'm sure it's good. I just received kefir from a friend today and this recipe inspired me to try it in my traditional shake. Considering I've never used kefir and I used it full strength it was a little more tangy than I would have wished. Next time, I will use half milk half kefir. I thought some other health cautious people out there might enjoy it as well.
Berry/Spinach Smoothie
1 large handful fresh spinach
1 c. frozen blueberries
1 banana (I like to freeze mine to make it extra cold)
1 T flaw seeds
1 c. 100% berry blend juice that has no extra sugar (I use Ocean Spray's cranberry, blueberry, blackberry mix)
1/2 c. milk (This is where I used Kefir in the recipe-I'll use 1/4 c. kefir and 1/4 c. milk next time)
Blend all ingredients together. FYI since this has no preservatives the smoothie will turn brown if it sits overnight-it's best right away.
