Cinnamon Raisin Biscuits, fresh from the oven...

New poll: Where do you get most of your recipes?

I've been doing a lot of baking recently, but what I haven't been doing is: blogging about it! :)

Here is an old favorite: Cinnamon Raisin Biscuits.

Cinnamon Raisin Biscuits recipe

I usually just drop mine onto the cookie sheet (saves time, although they don't look all fancy!) and they're a quick homemade treat that makes a good breakfast or afternoon snack. Or, lunchbox treat! ;)

In fact, these Cinnamon Raisin Biscuits are so good, they're even included in my friend Crystal's breakfast recipe ebook!

Tammy, I tried your

Tammy,
I tried your delightful biscuits this morning, and my husband said they were the best ever...and he's a picky eater!

I have two questions: is the pan ungreased? And is it really 450 degree oven...because the raisins on the outside of the biscuits were burned.

Thanks!

Cinnamon Raisin Biscuits answer:

Lindsay,

Yes, I really do use a 450-degree oven... but ovens can vary in temperature so maybe you could try it a little lower if the raisins got burned. My raisins usually get a little dark but not burned! :)

I see in the recipe I didn't specify about greasing the pan, and I believe that technically it's "supposed" to be ungreased. However, I usually use the butter wrappers to lightly grease the cookie sheet before dropping the biscuits onto it. I'll go add that to the recipe right now! :)

Thanks for trying the recipe, and I'm glad you and your husband liked them! :)

Apparently I have difficulty NOT adapting recipes...

I mean, I wanted to try this one...but I didn't want to use butter (because I feel bad when I use something that's so expensive). So I used oil instead. LOL! And, since we don't use milk, I used water instead. And I added sugar because I couldn't find powdered sugar to make the glaze. And I eventually reduced the temperature to avoid burning the bottom of the biscuits. So, seriously...I'm pathetic at following recipes! But my siblings appreciated the results.

(In case it's not apparent, I'm starting to work on using your recipes - I think they're cool and I love that someone has already done the experimenting. Plus, the pictures make me hungry.)

Pamela The Substituter

Pamela, you butchered my recipe!!!! ;) Just kidding. But I think shortening is cheaper than butter and would be a better substitute than oil! Do you guys keep shortening on hand? Oh well, I guess if your siblings like them, then it's all good! :)

You're very sweet to try my recipes. :)

My mom's not a shortening fanatic...

I'm lucky she even lets me use canola oil. ;-) LOL! I did butcher your recipe. Maybe someday I'll do it the right way...topping and all. :-D

Thanks, Tammy

I made the biscuits again for my mom--turning down the oven a bit and using my new silpat I just got for my birthday. They turned out perfectly, and Mom asked for the recipe. Thanks so much!
