My husband at one point asked me if I could just make a batch of "Crisp" without the healthful fruit. This recipe comes close. I used a smaller (but more decorative) pan and the CRISP was almost too crisp (hard) but believe me... my men are snarfing it down. I also used more than 8 apples. I had them, they looked so lonely with all their friends peeled so I put in about 12 total.
I think one could easily scale back on the brown sugar or use a HUGE pan (even bigger than 9x13) or make two batches and use lots of apples. Then again if you have crisp-aholics in your house like I do, you may want to stick with a 7x10 pan and just enjoy the topping.
