A simple green bean casserole with onions, turkey bacon, and a hint of sweet and sour flavor
3 cans (15 oz. each) cut green beans OR 4-5 cups cooked green beans (fresh green beans, washed and snapped into thirds, then cooked)
6-8 thin slices of turkey bacon, diced
1/2 medium onion, diced
1 Tablespoon oil
3 Tablespoons sugar
2 Tablespoons vinegar
4 Tablespoons water
1. Fry turkey bacon and onions in oil. Remove from heat.
2. In small bowl, combine sugar, vinegar, and water, stirring to dissolve sugar. Pour in with bacon and onion mixture, stirring well.
3. In large mixing bowl, put (drained) green beans. Add liquid mixture and toss to coat.
4. Pour mixture into a greased 8- or 9-inch square glass baking dish; cover. Place in refrigerator for several hours or overnight.
5. Remove dish from refrigerator 1-2 hours before you plan to bake. Bake, covered, at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 10 minutes longer.
I really like this green bean casserole. I think the flavor is just perfect... and I love to eat the leftovers cold! This is the best greean bean casserole I've tried. It's just really tasty!! My rating: 9/10
