We love lemons! I got a big bag of lemons at Costco and have been enjoying cooking and baking with them. (Fish recipes coming up next!) I don't always (or even usually) have fresh lemons in my fridge, so it's been fun to have them available for the past couple weeks. :)
I made these lemon scones with sour lemon glaze for a breakfast potluck recently, and they were a big hit! Joshua says they're his favorite of all the scone varieties I've made. (The pumpkin scones are my personal favorite...)

Ruth was my little scone helper. :) She likes to bring the foot stool into the kitchen and use it to check out what's going on up on the counters. ;) At nearly 22 months, Ruth doesn't miss out on much these days... :)
The appliance behind the mixing bowl is my grain mill, as I had just ground some wheat flour. We've had our grain mill for about 18 months now, and I still totally love having freshly ground flour for baking! :)

Lemons
I'm sure you know this but you can juice lemons and freeze them. I make lemon or lime aid with a simple syrup with lemon juice and water. The ratio is 1 part sugar melted over medium heat in 2 parts water to dissolve the sugar. Cool. Add 1 part juice. To make into lemonade mix equal parts syrup+juice and cold water. You can add some pureed berries to it for color and flavor.
Yum, lemon!
I love lemon!!! I am going to have to try these, when I get time for baking!
Love Lemon
I love lemon, being half Italian we use them in a lot of our cooking. I will have to make these my mother and nana would love them there also big time lemon fans.
Looks good!
Oh, those look so good. I bet the flavor is similar to a sour lemon biscotti cookie that I have made in the past.
Tammy, seeing your food mill reminds me of a question I have been meaning to ask. Have you ground anything besides wheat in your mill? I am newly gluten free and so I have to use different flours such as rice, corn, bean and sorgum. They are so expensive so I have debated on buying that same grain mill. You do still like yours, correct? I must say that I do miss eating your whole wheat bread, the kids and hubby are still enjoying your recipes though. :)
Thanks,
Betsy M
These ARE good!
Made these last night and they were wonderful! Never made or eaten a scone before, but the pic was irresistable. Didn't have cream, so melted butter and added buttermilk at half of this recipe: 1/3 cup melted butter to 3/4 cup buttermilk. Fluffed up nicely and was just a great flavor! Love your recipes!
I wanna make these
Me and my son Dakota love lemon.I am making these soon!
lemon scones
MMM... I just made these about 5 minutes ago and they are wonderful. Thanks for another great recipe!!
Mmm lemony delicious!
I made these for breakfast this morning and they were delicious. I liked the flakiness, but some members of my family prefer something more solid. But then it wouldn't quite be a scone would it?
I did not have cream so I did part sour cream and reg. milk to get something that was the consistency of cream. I figured the sourcream would enhance that tangy flavor...and they tasted delicious!
Looking forward to trying out the other scone recipes soon too.
