Fresh fruit for sure. The Summer is such a bounty of such yummy fruit after the winter. Berries, cherries, melons, peaches, apricots, nectarines, yum! Plus all the u-pick around here makes it super affordable!
I don't eat hot dogs very often, but during the summer, if we cook out this is a necessity, I love to sneak them off the grill as soon as they are done!
I too picked salads because there are SO MANY ways to fix a salad - its not just lettuce! A fruit salad is so refreshing. A veggie salad can be a light side dish or a full meal adding meats.
But I will agree burgers and hot dogs fresh off the grill are wonderful. Fried Chicken could be heaven (ok that's a little much) but too much grease/fat for me although it sounds so darned good - and you can add that to a salad too :D
I chose fresh fruit, because what is a picnic without watermelon?! (secretly though, I might have chosen potato salad as an uber-close second choice.)
My kids will occasionally eat an entire watermelon as their meal in the summer when it's just too hot to even eat. My 4 yr. old can eat an entire one by himself!
I usually pack wraps (spinach, tofurky, cheese) potato salad, watermelon or other fresh fruit, and lemonade when we picnic. Occasionaly, but rarely will we bring a dessert, but the cookie bars look great, so we might try that this weekend!
I said baked beans (because I love them right out of the can), but I really love to go to the deli and get roast beef, macaroni salad, etc. My dad used to take my sisters and I on picnics all the time at a local park when we were kids. I hated it then, but now I really miss it (he's still willing to do picnics, thank goodness!) He always bought those things for us to eat, so it kinda brings back memories :)

Fresh fruit for me! I LOVE fruit. :) Baked beans are second, as long as they're a homemade variety and not just the store canned ones. :)
