Making Your Home a Haven: Waking Up

(photo by A Source of Joy!)

Another week has passed and it's time to add a new challenge for those who wish to join in Making our Homes a Haven! :)

Several people have asked if they can jump in now, even though many of us started these challenges a number of weeks ago. My answer is: Of course! :) Feel free to start this week, or even to read the past challenges and use whatever will be a blessing to you and your home. :)

This week's challenge is to set a time to get up each day (or at least, each weekday)!

We've talked about a morning routine, and now it's time to start making sure we start our day when we need to. I'm not suggesting that anyone has to get up extremely early or anything unreasonable, but I am suggesting that we decide when we should be getting up in order to have the best start on our day -- a start that will help us serve Yahweh better.

Since we already have a bed time, having a waking time should help us continue to use our time and resources wisely!

Whether or not our ideal bed time and waking time happen each day, it's helpful to remember to choose love and patience. Our homes are not a haven because of how smoothly things do (or don't!) run, but because of a welcoming, joyful spirit we purpose to show to our loved ones. :)

Setting a wake-up time is going to be a lot easier for me than setting a bed time was! My alarm goes off shortly before 5am each weekday, and I really don't have any option other than getting out of bed and starting to make Joshua's tea and lunch for the day. :)

Since I do get up on time, I plan to use this week to focus again on my bed time. I am still struggling in that area!

Want to join our challenge? This week, decide what wake-up time would serve you and your family the best! You can leave a comment here, or post about it in your blog and leave us a link! :)

Thank you all for your encouragement to me and others in these challenges! :)

Between 6-6:30

Monday-Friday.It used to be earlier but with my husband being laid off he gets up at 5 with the boys and I get up when the 2nd one is in the shower. He has really helped me out so much!I am being spoiled and really like it.On the weekends we are usually up around 8 or maybe a little later and call that sleeping in.

Who sleeps in later on the weekends? And how much more sleep do you get if you do?

My wake up time changed as

My wake up time changed as well when my husband was laid off. Since I didn't have to be up as early with him I then started getting up later. It is not working well, so back to 5:00am I go.

I usually wake up between 5

I usually wake up between 5 and 5:30 Monday to Friday and on weekends, anywhere between 6:30 to 7 a.m. Now with older children, (between 12 and 20), I'm the first one up. When they were younger, the rule was they had to stay in their rooms until mommy told them they could come out. My early time is VERY important to me...that is when I spend time in God's Word, prayer and devotionals....I find that time is far too precious to NOT work at...I'm a much more loving wife and mother once I have spent time with my Father!

Morning!

I would love to get better about rising on my own, and not because the kids have woken me ;-) That morning time with my Lord is missed sorely. Thank you for the encouragement and inspiration. Too, I so need to be reminded of what you have written - about being joy filled and having a haven for my children and not just an orderly, tightly run *ship*

God Bless, eko

wake up time

WOW! I actually decided I would start doing this just a few days ago and posted it on my blog (dedicatedhousewife.blogspot.com) in my goals! Too cool :D I successfully woke up today ten minutes before my goal time which is 8am I have a 6 month old who likes to sleep in so any earlier than this right now would make for a cranky baby but I hope to have us up at 7am eventually.

Mine recently changed

I use to get up at 5, but my husband is up at 4. Four weeks ago, I resolved to get up that hour earlier so that I could spend more time with him and get the day jump started. It is taking time to adjust, but has been a blessing! I get to cook for him, do at least two loads of laundry, exercise, pray and talk to the Lord, prep dinner and still have time to get my two teenagers up and at them plus myself showered and dressed and all be out the door by 6:30-6:45. Wonderful! My husband is thrilled with the change, starts his day better too! The best part is, we are all ready to hit the sack by about 8 that night where as I use to stay up till about 10.

Weekends we do our best to sleep no later then 6.

Early to rise

My fiance got a job as a baker at a local bagel shop and it requires getting up at 4:30AM to be at work on time. So, I have decided to set my wake up time as the same time as his so we can be on the same schedule. It's weird to wake up before the sun, but I get to see it rise and set each day. I also get a load of laundry finished each day before my kids are even out of bed. That's pretty awesome.

I would really love to get

I would really love to get up between 6am - 6.30am but realistically it more 7 - 7.30am. Especially these days when I am waking up every 2 hours.

My schedule for M-F

Is 430 am. I have to be at work by 630. Those two hours I'm able to get my shower, prayer, Bible study, the children's lunches packed(since they go to school), something out to thaw for dinner, and some exercise in. And sometimes I might start a load of laundry.

Since I have to be in bed by 9 pm (at the latest lol) S-Thursday, I'm able to sleep in till about 6 on the weekends. I still get my time to shower etc, but I'm not rushing to go off to work. My children aren't up until 8-830, so I still have a couple of hours to do what I need to do.

I'm a TOTAL morning person!!

trying...

6 o'clock is my goal, but if I get in bed after 11 (which is usually the case) I find it is better to get some extra sleep. I am working for the next 4 weeks and I have to leave for work by 6:50, so 5 o'clock would really be best...I really need to be getting about 7 hours of sleep though.

same time Monday - Thursday

I wake up at same time monday through thursday
between 4:01 - 4:07 PM

Friday, Saturday and Sunday
anywhere from 1pm - 4:07 PM
