Making Your Home a Haven: Choosing Love

(photo by A Source of Joy!)

Last Monday I challenged you to set a bedtime and follow it. How did you do? I did better this past week but I wasn't as disciplined as I had planned to be. I'm thankful for a new week and a new chance to keep working in the area of getting to bed on time! :)

It can be difficult to find that happy balance in life sometimes. You know? My life rarely seems as though it's perfectly balanced, perfectly managed, or perfectly ordered!

When I go to bed on time, I accomplish "less". I can get grumpy if I start thinking about all the things I wanted to get done, bemoaning the fact that I "wasted" those hours asleep!

And on the reverse, when I stayed up way past my bedtime in order to check more things off my lists, I felt grumpy the next morning because I'd only gotten a few hours of sleep the night before!

There's really only one cure for this (besides hiring a nanny, secretary, housekeeper, and lots of other things I can't afford!).

I discovered this little trick about 5 years ago when my first baby was born. (Suddenly, sleep just wasn't the same any more!)

If you want to be cheerful, you must choose to be cheerful (even when you don't feel like it). If you want to have patience, you have to practice waiting quietly and calmly (even when you don't feel like it). If you want to be kind, choose kindness (even when you don't feel like it).

The good news is that this attitude adjustment is infectious! And it will make your days pass so much more pleasantly -- for you and your family.

So today, along with continuing to follow your set bedtime and morning routine, I want to encourage you to try your best to be loving towards your family... even (or especially!) when you want to feel grumpy.

Up to the challenge? Leave me a comment or post about it in your blog and add the link to your post here! :)

I did not set one last week as the kids were on spring break and I knew I would not be true to a time I would put down. Some other things I have been doing and they are little goals for myself is.I have skin that has red blotches on it and I have no idea from what.It has always been that way and I use soap with nothing in it or just use water and clean it off and still red spots. So the last couple months I have been putting on cover up(A very light color).Just enough to make me look ok and not blushing all the time. The only other thing I usually wear is lip gloss(Colored)or carmex.I would like to get a daily schedule down of cleaning. With Rick laid off I am not to good with keeping a daily cleaning schedule as I was before.

I have been grumpy for two days - I don't like this challenge! But, I need it :-) Pregnancy hormones, fatigue, and stress are getting to me, and my family!

Bedtime and morning routine are far from perfect, but much improving, and my home is showing the affects of that in a good way!

On a side note, I'm making your lasagna tonight. I'm doubling the recipe and will use 4 8x8 pans so we can have one tonight and freeze the other three to have after the baby's born! Speaking of which, do you have any good freezing tips or how-to's, or know how long it will stay good in the freezer?

A friend recently got married and I am trying to teach her to cook and help her stock her freezer with lots of good make ahead meals. What are some good meals that you can make ahead and freeze? She is a terrible cook but really wants to learn and I would love to help.

I found your post on an LJ community site called "jesus Freaks" You posted about the Pearl mimistry and I was really happy to see someone who valued the material. :)

I can't wait to explore your page and recipes! I really could use some new menu ideas. It is now my very new goal to be the heart of my hoome as well. It is really hard to find friends who do not look at you like a zombie when you say that. Really nice to meet you.

Where should I start on this Making your Home a Haven? I just found it today and it seems to have started a couple weeks ago. I just now wrote a morning routine.

I have a set bedtime for the children at 8:00 p.m. and for myself no later than 11:00 p.m. I very much enjoy have some quiet time when the children are asleep. Our wake up time is 7:30 a.m. I serve breakfast and coffee as quick as my sleepy eyes can see to do it. I sort of stagnate after that need to get hoppin'!

I forgot to login
I am doing the challenges for the first time. I posted an 8pm bedtime for kids and 11 for me. wake up 730am. I am planning on posting about it on my blog each monday as well. :)
