Yum, yes, I love sauerkraut.
Yum, yes, I love sauerkraut. My mom and grandma used to make huge batches and can it. Now I'm craving bratwurst and sauerkraut! Ruth
i Do !! :)
i like sourkrout on a hotdog :) ;) ... i think it's a trad Boston thing or something, but i just love the sour 'pickely' vegetable with the meat ... it's really good ! i'm sure there may be other ways that i would enjoy sourkrout but i havn't tried them yet :) ...... but anyway, i've heard that it can be very Nutritious if it is lacto fermented (?) .... hhhmmm not really sure what the difference would be but i just heard that those kind of lacto ferented vegetables are good for you and for Digestion :) ...... anyway, maybe someday i will look more into it and try my hand to make some !! :)
p.s. i am a fairly new reader but i just wanted to say 'thanks' for all your posts ... i realy enjoy them and am inspired by them ... keep it up ! :)

sauerkraut
I like sauerkraut, but can't imagine making it myself.
sauerkraut
I am not a picky eater (after all, one of my favorites is liver); however, I don't like sauerkraut. I'm not even sure if I spelled it correctly! My husband loves it and I fix it for him (very) occassionally, but I don't eat it. I will eat it if it is served to me.
Love it!
I especially love it when pregnant - goes along with the pickle craving! (Not the type with the carroway seed however.) Krout was such a favorite of our family growing up that we even made some pizza's with it and hambuger on top. I loved it but still cannot convince my husband to try it on pizza. :)
My sister and I made it last year with the excess of cabbage we had in the garden. Lots of work but it was worth it as it tastes much better than that in the store and it usually lasts two years when home canned.

I love sauerkraut, but I've
I love sauerkraut, but I've never had it homemade. My dad always tells me about how his mom (He was born in '40, btw) used to make it in their house when he was a kid and he could smell it a mile away lol. He complains that it always stunk up their house. I guess if he doesn't like it as an adult, he has a good reason! lol
I love sauerkraut. A brat is
I love sauerkraut. A brat is not a brat without sauerkraut! I am fermenting some right now. I hope it turns out. The last batch didn't. Shouldn't have listened to my hubby. :D
I must confess I've never
I must confess I've never had it! I must remedy that. In theory it sounds good, kind of like pickle relish, but who knows if I'd really like it. :)

When my family lived in
When my family lived in upstate New York, surrounded by cabbage fields, we decided it was time to make some homemade sauerkraut. We would buy a bunch of heads from a roadside stand and make it as a family. Mom and Dad would shred it while my siblings and I would mix the salt in with our hands. Then, the hard part was waiting for it to be done fermenting. Traditionally, we would eat it on New Years cooked down with a pork roast over buttery mashed potatoes.
I have to admit, as much as I like homemade sauerkraut, I have a hard time eating it store bought. I almost think that they just pour vinegar over cabbage, the nasty sour stuff. Home-made 'kraut has a much more mellow, buttery flavor.
I have never tried it.
I'll be honest...I have never tried it before. I am going to have to one of these days. I loved reading about the process of making it.
Growing up, we had pork of
Growing up, we had pork of some sort and sauerkraut on New Year's Day every year, and we each had to eat at least a bite of sauerkraut for good luck. (I guess it's a German tradition, like eating black-eyed peas for luck in the South.) I didn't mind--I really like sauerkraut--but not the sweetened kind with caraway seed. I like sour, salty, pickle-y foods.
