Food from a box

"Wow, this is so good! If I didn't know it was homemade, I would have thought it came out of a box!"

Someone gave me this compliment about a food I served to them.

While I generally would consider the "box" part an insult, in this case it was a compliment.

Does anyone want to guess what food I served? :)

I think the jello was a good guess, but I figured as good as you are in the kitchen that you probably have that one down pat.... This is really hard, Tammy. You should have given us a clue..... There goes my sleep tonight. lol.
Oh, I guess brownies, just to be a little different. (Cuz I know that's not it) I just can't figure this one.... You've totally stumped me!

I'd say pudding too. Homemade anything is always better than boxed anything, so the comment seems odd to me.

My guess would have to be brownies. It's hard to make homemade brownies taste as good as or even better than the boxed version :)

I'm also going to go with scalloped potatoes as that is one dish that I think few people actually take the time to make from scratch. Also, more than a few people I know think they are actually better when from a box.

Scalloped Potatoes or Pie Crust

My first thought was Scalloped Potatoes. I make them from scratch and have been asked if they were from a box. I didn't really take it as a compliment, since I don't like the boxed ones.

I've also been asked if my pie crust was the frozen variety. Hmmm... I'm not sure that's much of a compliment either.:)

The answer...

It was...... pizza! :) I think the person was comparing it to a really good take-out pizza and had never had good homemade pizza before. At least, I hope they were comparing it to a GOOD boxed pizza! ;)

Pizza? I wouldn't have guessed

I assumed it would be a cake because so many people use cake mixes.

People need to learn that pizza dough is the easiest yeast bread you can ever make. Its so fast, and honestly its really forgiving.

But pizza comes from a box? Since when?

Chef Boyardee. And it's pretty good too. I ate that stuff in college lol.

Basically all the dry ingredients are in there, just mix w/water. The sauce is in a can or pouh

All kinds of pizza comes from a box

I know cuz before learning how to make homemade dough that I enjoyed from Tammy(Thank You).

I used to get totino's .99 cent ones,
Chef Boyardee kits in the box,
And those Degiorno(sp?)ones in the box.
There is more but I forget what they are now since it has been so long since I bought one.

Congrats to all the ones that guessed it!!!

I think it is a compliment if they thought it was better than take out.That might be all that they knew and thought that was great before having yours :)

I agree that if your pizza takes like it comes from a box (carryout) then it is a compliment!
