A sweet homemade maple or vanilla flavored syrup
1 cup (packed) brown sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon maple or vanilla flavoring
1 tablespoon butter*
1. Heat sugar, corn syrup, and water on low heat until dissolved.
2. Add flavoring and butter. Remove from heat. Serve hot or cold over pancakes, waffles [1], or cornbread.

*If you need to store syrup for a long time, omit the butter. Syrup will store for a long time in the fridge.
If you would like to make syrup without using corn syrup, here are instructions for a variation without corn syrup:
1 pound brown sugar
1 1/4 cups water
1 teaspoon maple or vanilla flavoring
pinch of salt
Directions: Mix brown sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and add flavoring.
I love this sweet homemade syrup! My mom always made this for pancakes when I was growing up. I know it's very sweet... so we don't make it very often... but it's sooooo yummy!! (We usually use fruit on our pancakes or waffles.) My rating: 10/10
