How many servings of fruits and vegetables do you typically eat each day?More than 10 2% (10 votes) 8-10 4% (21 votes) 5-7 24% (117 votes) 3 or 4 39% (193 votes) 1 or 2 28% (140 votes) None 3% (16 votes) Total votes: 497 Submitted by Tammy on Wed, 2008-07-23 23:52.
I wrote 5-7 but I really wonder how you really count this because I can eat a large plate of green salade with one tomato and grains added (at leats three types) and I add on my salad germinated grains, (at least two to three different ones) I love to eat them with a mixture of garlic and parsley . (I thinly grind them and put them in little cups with a lid, and put them in the freezer) I just kinda go by the serving size listed on packages and such... like 2/3 cup of cooked veggies is a serving, 1 banana/peach/pear/nectarine/etc... I would count a med-large tomato as 1 serving... :) I agree, Tammy. It's much easier to get fruit and veggies in during the summer... from my garden, cheaper at the store, and from all the random people who GIVE us their surplus. We love those random people! It is so much easier to eat them in the summer because when they are grown in our garden they actually taste like what they are supposed to taste like! Most of the time the ones from the grocery are flat and tasteless to us, then they end up drowned in dressing to make them taste like food! I will be honest and say that I only get about 3-5 servings a day. some days more some days less but the average is 3 to 5 servings I know I should eat more of them but I really do not like them that well, my kids love fruits and veggies though! and that is most of what I eat, but I could never get 10 servings. How would you fit it in your stomach? = ) I usually eat a large salad everyday which I think 2 c. of greens is a serving, right? Then I add cucumbers, broccoli, and whatever other vegetable I have adding another serving at least. I may eat another salad usually with dinner, but sometimes all I eat is one meal a day and a snack. I think I'm honestly clueless as to what makes up a serving of vegetables. But I'll be honest: I doubt we get as much as we should. We have very vegetable based lunches and dinners but not really breakfasts or snacks that include veggies and I have it in my head that that's the only way to really get enough. So I, too, am really interested to read how you manage to eat that many servings because I could use the ideas! The recommendation on the tv ads here are to "go for 2 and 5"--2 of fruit, 5 of veg. We find it easy to eat lots of fruit but the vegetables are harder! Ruth I do 1-2 veggies with dinner but do not always get fruit in for me.They boys get a lot more in a day than I do. Poll inspired by this article about how we like to think we eat more veggies than we really do! :)
I chose 8-10. Some days it's more than 10 servings, but I'd say 8-10 is my average. Summertime is always easier, with fresh food from gardens! :)
