Eating from the garden

When there's fresh food from the garden, it's easy to plan the menu!

Joshua: What's for dinner, Hon?

Me: I thought we'd have salad... and asparagus... and strawberry shortcake. Hey, will you grill some chicken for the salad?

Joshua (thinking): I guess that's the only way I'm getting any meat with this meal... ;)

Yes, I read his mind. Well, not really... but I could see him visibly wilt when I said "asparagus" since we'd already had asparagus once a day for the past 2 weeks.

The word "salad" elicits the same sort of reaction (I'm not creative enough when it comes to salads... that or else I'm just lazy!) but suggesting some grilled chicken did the trick.

Fresh garden salad with chunks of grilled chicken on top. I also had colored bell peppers on hand from Aldi's (the only place that sells them affordably!) and I really like colored bell peppers with chicken -- the flavors just seem to mesh really well. :)

The very last meal of asparagus for the year. It was actually very tasty, since I remembered to salt it, unlike some times past. :)

Fresh strawberries for some strawberry shortcake! Strawberry shortcake with real whipped cream is one of my very favorite recipes.

Joshua: You know, I was hoping to try a few new recipes with all of our strawberries, but you keep making shortcake.

Me: I know. Well, it's my favorite. I keep wanting more. :)

What a wonderful feast!

MMMMMMMM

It all sounds great to me!
'Cept maybe the asparagus part...they're sorta like little trees to me (bark and all), ..and I somehow can't get past some traumatic childhood experience with them I guess. The REALLY weird thing is, my kids will eat 'em!
lol
But I must say---you ALMOST tempted me with that green soup with them!

Looks yummy!

Sounds a bit like our meal last night with my parents. The veggies were the stars and the meat was just to keep the men happy. ;-)

I would be so happy with that meal~

It looks great and really filling.A perfect summer meal and you do not have to heat up the house :)

Salad looks great but watch out for peppers

I know that peppers have gotten ridiculously expensive, but watch out buying conventional (non-organic) ones since they are on the 12 most contaminated list.

Garden meal

Tammy, the meal looks fabulous!! By no means are you lazy. Maybe exhausted by the end of the day, but certainly not lazy.
Lord Bless!

I get that reaction when...

I get that reaction when I say we're having chicken. My husband wilts. Chicken? Again?
I love chicken.
It's cheap.
It's versatile.
I just need to disguise it better!!

It all looks delicious!

You always make asparagus

You always make asparagus look so good.. I wish I liked it! That truly does look like a delicious and healthy meal!

Tried Your Strawberry Shortcake

I tried your strawberry shortcake and it was a big hit with our family. I used spelt flour because I had milled some for another recipe and had it left over. It was light and delicious. Even my Hubby, who is sometimes a skeptic, loved it! This URL is for my blog entry on it in case you are interested. Thanks for sharing all your great recipes! :o)

I Love Salad

Try putting some beans and corn, into it that would be really good with the chicken and red peppers.
