I never could get the hang of gas stove, although I have friends that rave about theirs (and even take their stove with them on a move!). Paul had one in his apartment when we were engaged, and if we cooked a meal together, I was always making something boil over and putting out the flame! :o) So we've always had electric... oh, and my mom always had electric, too, so maybe that's what I'm used to.

Our top is gas and the oven part is electric. That is the way Don wanted it. I like the gas top and have always had gas on top. At our first home we had gas and Don got use to it. He really enjoyed it and said it was easier to cook with. The electric top takes too long to cool down he said.

I have an electric smooth top range and just love it! I fry grilled cheese sandwiches right on the burner. It cleans up so nice and I like the looks of it being smooth on top too.

We have electric here, simply because where we are in Africa you have to purchae your own gas if you have a gas stove. And when supply and demand gets a little imbalanced, you end up cooking on charcoal. :-)

But my ideal in a perfect world? Gas burners with an electric oven!

When we bought this house it had a new electric, I miss my gas stove terribly! It heated up much faster.

I miss my gas stove too! Our house also came with a pretty new electric stove. I figured I'd give it a try for a few months and then if I really, REALLY could't stand it, I'd consider selling the electric stove and putting the money towards a gas one instead. But it's been 9 months and I've gotten used to it. If we ever have to replace it, though, you'd better believe it'll be with gas!

Wow, the anon comment from Africa brings back lots of memories! When I lived in Kenya, I lived in the village and we cooked over a fire and sometimes a charcoal cooker. I would've given anything for one of those propane tanks with the burner on top! When I spent Thanksgiving at my friend's house in town, she had a hybrid stove with an electric oven, and the electricity kept going on and off all day! Fortunately everything got cooked well enough and it was an amazing American-style Thanksgiving dinner!!

I have cooked on gas only and hear nothing but horror stories about electric ones.I would only use gas since that is what I am used to.

We have gas now as of two weeks ago. Boy, what a difference! I really like it and would hate to go back to elecric. If I did have to go back to electric, I'd want the conventional stove with the coils on tops. We had a smoothtop for seven years and it was nice at first but was a nuisance later. It heated very slowly compared to an electric coil stove and most definitely with gas.
At first I was scared of the fire but am pretty used to it now. Our gas oven has convection on it. Believe it or not, our propane will cost less than electric. We come out saving a lot.

We have an induction stove. It works using electromagnetic waves (or something strange like that). We can only use pots and pans on it that a magnet would stick too. It boils water faster than any other stove I ever used, and is barely hot to the touch as soon as it is turned off. But, I don't like how difficult it is to find pots and pans that work on it.

I grew up using gas, and am most comfortable with it. My grandma has used electric for many, many years, and prefers it, because that is what she used to.

When Ed and I married, he had a perfectly good electric range/oven, but I missed the gas so much. We used some wedding gifts to buy a new stove. We did a lot of research before deciding on a dual fuel stove. Gas is supposedly shown by tests to be better for stove top cooking, while electric is better in the oven. When my sister and I ran our family's commercial kitchen for a number of years, we were always happier with the way the electric stoves treated the baked goods, so I can second that. I've used this stove for a year now, and I am very pleased with it.

I grew up using a gas (propane) stove and loved it. I learned to cook on an electric (coil) stove in my dorm in college, and all three of our apartments have had electric stoves. When we buy a house one day, we'd really like a gas stove. I love how quickly a gas stove responds.
