Enjoying the "right now"

Pumpkin cheesecake and eggless egg nog :)

We had such a fun, full day of visiting with family. :) I slept in until 8 this morning, and then started right in on my dinner rolls. Joshua made breakfast for us, and then made some eggless egg nog. :) Yes, I know there is cheesecake in this picture... we will get the recipe typed up tomorrow! :)

The dinner rolls took up most of the morning (with no time for pictures -- so I'll take some tomorrow!) and in-between forming rolls and baking them, we managed to fit showers and kitchen clean-up and getting-ready-to-go. :)

Yehoshua and Eliyahu had a blast playing with their cousins, and completely wore themselves out. When we got back home at 7 pm, they both went straight to bed! :) At their ages right now (3.5 and almost-2), they are old enough to play nicely with other children and don't get into so much trouble. I could actually visit with other people while keeping an eye on them as they played! :)

In many ways, this time before the new baby's birth is relaxing, and I'm enjoying some of the freedoms of having "older" children. :) I know I will enjoy having a newborn in a few months, but I'm also enjoying "right now"...

I have spent wasted far too many moments waiting for everything to be "perfect" before being thankful, content, and happy. It's so much better to just stop -- and enjoy the right now with which I've been blessed. :)

Just in case you haven't heard yet...you have a new cousin! Kathleen gave birth at 3:24 pm to Suzanne Francis. Hopefully I'll have pictures to post on my website tomorrow. I'm anxiously awaiting them since I'm not going to be able to see the baby until next weekend!

Thank you!

That is so true!

I've done the same, Tammy. Contentment goes along ways... :) We are so blessed! Sounds like you had a wonderful day. :) ~Tanya

Well, it wasn't me who had the baby ;)

I'm not the Kathleen mentioned above ;) But congratulations to her and her husband! Babies are such blessings!

Tammy the Frugal, do you happen to have a recipe for vanilla pudding mix? ;) We don't ever buy the stuff, so I'm wondering about alternatives.

Kathleen

Haha, well, it wasn't me, either... :)

I have a cousin named Kathleen. :)

That is...

...a recipe without dry milk powder. Or do you know of any good substitutes for it?

Homemade pudding mix recipes

No, I don't know of any good substitutes for the instant pudding mixes... there are pudding mix recipes (use Google to find them!) but they all seem to be the cooked version -- and the egg nog calls for instant (it's not cooked). So I don't know... we do buy the pudding mixes, but we only use a few each year... not very many! :)

Glad you are enjoying the "right now" Tammy. That is wonderful!

Every time I leave this site I do so with a warm feeling in my heart, not to mention a very empty feeling in my stomach! :)

You enrich us with much more than "only" recipes.
God bless!

I am glad...

I am glad you and your family had an awesome Thanksgiving!!!
My husband and I did too!!! It was wonderful!!! Quite possibly maybe the best one since we've been married :) Hallelujah!

Yes...we need to enjoy the 'right now' because we aren't promised tomorrow. We need to enjoy the moments we are currently able too. :) I do my best not to dwell on tomorrow, or the next day or the next week, because who knows...the Lord may very well come back for His church, so.... :)

The Lord bless thee!
Hugs,
Dawn

Hi Tammy,
I don't understand why your family doesn't eat pork and certain fish when in Acts 10:9-15 God shows Peter that because of the coming of the New Covenant and the calling of the church, He ended the dietary restrictions
that was set in the Old Testament.
I thoroughly enjoy your site but, am a little puzzled over this belief.

Peter's Vision
Submitted by Tammy
Hi, Anonymous!
In regards to Acts 10, yes, Peter is shown a sheet full of animals, and he is confused about this vision -- but in verse 28, he says that what he had been shown was that he was to call no man unclean (i.e. the vision was about Gentiles and Jews, not about dietary laws).

Here's an article about this subject, which might be of interest if you want to delve deeper into the passage. From page 6, where Acts 10 is discussed in detail:

"...a closer reading of the text raises a number of questions about this traditional interpretation. First, why is Peter perplexed after the vision if the meaning is so clear? Secondly, when he went to the house of Cornelius, did he eat non-kosher food? Thirdly, if the sheet in the vision contained all manner of four-legged creatures, this means some were of the clean variety. Why is it presumed that Peter would have taken the unclean animals for food? But then why does he respond to the Divine imperative as though he was being told to eat something unclean? And finally, when Peter recounts the vision later (Acts 11), he never brings up the issue of food but only interprets the vision as teaching him that he was to go to the house of Cornelius, a non-Jew. In fact, he explicitly states (Acts 10:28) that what he had “been shown” was that no man should be called unclean. The conclusion Peter reaches has nothing to do with food but everything to do with people. "

I hope this helps! :)
