French Toast Sandwich

These "french toast sandwiches" were somewhat of an experiment, at least for me. I started out with this recipe called "stuffed french toast". I didn't have cinnamon raisin bread, so I just used (homemade) whole wheat bread. I didn't have "cream cheese spread" (whatever that is!) so I just softened some regular cream cheese. We don't eat ham, so I used turkey pastrami. :) And pouring syrup over the top of the sandwich didn't sound good to me, so I skipped that part.

The sandwiches were good, but not great. I don't think we would have liked them any better if they had been made like the recipe said, though! It just sounds so sweet, and we don't do well with that much sugar in our main dish... even if it's breakfast.

Well, it was a nice change of pace, even just for one meal. :)

Try this twist

I don't know much about stuffed french toast sandwiches, but one of my favorite sandwiches is called a Monte Carlo. Take your basic yummy meat and cheese sandwich on nice sturdy bread, then dip the whole thing into french toast batter (egg, milk, no sugar) and cook as you would for french toast, nice and slow. Now you have a great meat and cheese melt encased in french toast-y goodness!

French Toast Benedict

Same general idea as a sweet french toast sandwhich- fry an egg, and put it inbetween two pieces of savory french toast with filling of choice (I like fresh tomatoe) and cover in hollandaise sauce. Or if you want to pick it up like a sandwich, dip it in the sauce. Yummy.

stuffed

you can make the french stuffed toast almost any way we use the cream cheese spread from the grocery store in strawberry flavour them put sliced strawberries on top and dip it the same as you would french toast and fry it.. you need no syrup its plenty sweet ..I sometimes jsut sprinkle some powdered sugar on top for looks and sometimes some fresh mint is good in it too..
