best green beans

Green beans are amazing if stir fried in a very hot pan with a bit of oil and soy sauce. You will know they are done when they are wrinkly but not soft.

Greeny beenies

I just recently found out that I like fresh green beans. I used to only like them canned, but my fiance's sister and brother-in-law were visting from Florida, they stir-fried fresh green beans.. and they were good! I also found out that I like grilled asparagus (but not canned, yuck!)

does pickled count?

We LOVE pickled green beans, that is our favorite. I can them myself. I also like them raw in my salad. I guess if I had to choose one way the whole family eats them cooked. (I am the only one who eats them raw on purpose, they just get some in there salad if they are not looking;) )

Canned and then heated on

Canned and then heated on the stove. We find that frozen beans heated always taste rubbery.

Canning also leaves extra space for the freezer. We did about 200 quarts last year. We still have quite a few jars left so, after this years crop, we might have enough for two years. :)

New way to do green beans...fry them!

Hi! I love this site! I thought I would tell you how we do fresh green beans. I snip off the stem, wash them, then simmer them for about 15 min.Let's say about 1 lb. of beans. Drain them, then put a half of a stick of butter, and about a 1/8 of a cup of olive oil in a pan. Fry them in this until they are black looking! Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Love,Denise

Can kind

I like them out of the can and heated up with butter, salt & pepper.

I do like frozen ones once in awhile satued with garlic but prefer the can kind.

I know call me a weirdo!!!

You're not weird!

I grew up on canned--they taste just fine to me and are always handy on my pantry shelf.

Yeah, sure I enjoy the luxury of fresh once in a while but I do keep the canned kind on hand.

Fried Green Beans

At the university eating place they offered French fried green beans with a breading... they were good, but probably a lot more fattening as well. :D

Green Beans

Being 1/2 chinese, I grew up with them stir fried which is my favorite. As a baby & toddler (she's 4 now) my DD would only eat the frozen ones that I would cook in the microwave. Now my son (18 mon) will only eat the canned ones... go figure. I like to blanch the fresh ones out of the garden for about 4-5 min and then we ALL eat them like candy!

thanks for asking!

Canning books

I don't have any canning books, but we don't use any pork... I don't think I've ever come across a canning recipe that called for pork or gelatin, though!
