Meredith's fruit cobbler tips

Meredith posted about how she makes her basic fruit cobbler... quick, easy, and delicious! Since I've actually never made a cobbler that I thought turned out very well, I'll have to remember this post of hers. ;) Just today, I picked a couple quarts of mulberries (they're so big this year!) but I gave them to my mom... :)

And while you're over at Meredith's blog, she has a nice post about being a courteous guest. :) Always good food for thought, though as some of the comments left on her post suggest -- know your host and ask before doing. ;)

For example, I don't always like other people trying to cook in my kitchen, but joint cooking projects are usually fun. And who doesn't like help with the cleanup?! Even that can be tricky at times, though, when I have had guests insist on washing the dishes for me, when I would actually prefer to do it myself due to the large percentage of dirty dishes found when they've done the job... :)

However, while the guest has certain responsibilities, the hostess certainly has them as well, and a cheerful smile is more important than dirty dishes. :) More thoughts on hospitality can be found here.

Cobblers are wonderful!

I never thought of mulberries for cobblers. Good idea! Meredith's recipe is the one my mom taught me and it works for almost any fruit. I definitely give two birthday girl thumbs way up!

I thought about you as I was

I thought about you as I was writing that post! It definitely turned out Tammy's Recipe style, only without the skillful photography.

Thanks for the link!

Cobbler...

Brandy, maybe I will try to pick some more mulberries on Sunday, so I can make the cobbler. :) I'm too lazy to make pie sometimes... though I love to EAT pie! ;)

Meredith, your photos are great. It looks so tasty!! :)

cobbler

I tried Meredith's cobbler recipe this afternoon using a combination of raspberries and blueberries and got RAVE reviews from my family. Thanks Tammy for sharing.

Also, your dish may have

Also, your dish may have been too hot. I used a microwave to melt the butter, and my dish was merely warm, not hot. It continued to cool as I prepared the batter.

Your batter should not start cooking early.

Dish too hot...

I thought of that as I was writing about my "disaster"! :) Since the directions just said "melt the butter in the dish", and I have had other recipes that called for putting the dish in the oven and melting the butter, I decided to do that rather than melting the butter in a saucepan (we don't have a microwave). I guess the "in the pan" part probably wasn't essential. :)
