Kitchen Tip Tuesdays: Stove safety

My kitchen tip this week is a simple safety tip that has become a habit of mine. (Having a parent who constantly reminded me of this during my growing-up years turned it into a habit, I guess!) :)

Don't ever put anything that's flammable on, in, or near your stove or oven. Keep paper away, keep plastics away, and don't use your stove-top or oven to store anything that could melt or catch fire! Even though your stove may be turned off, don't put plastic bowls, cups, or any other dishes there. It's a good habit to formulate, especially in a kitchen with little helpers. ;)

As a side note, if you ever do have a small fire in your kitchen, sprinkling baking soda on it should put it out. I've witnessed this one first-hand. ;)

Stove Safety

Thanks, Tammy, for the reminder. I have dealt with the consequences of not heeding that warning, myeself...

You're right about the

You're right about the baking soda!!
A long time ago.... well, I finish it was longer ago than it was! =P
I was cooking burgers in our broiler and forgot to drain the grease before cooking the 2nd batch..... well, I opened the broiler up and flames shot out! I was horrified and put my head around the corner of the kitchen doorway and yelled into the dining room, "There's Flames!". My Dad quickly came in and put baking soda on them. I did turn the oven/broiler off thankfully.
I don't remember if we saved the hamburgers or not. =D

Good reminder

I do the same, but a few times recently I've gotten lax, and melted a plastic spoon! I'm back to my good habits now.
