Kitchen Tip Tuesdays: Keeping dishcloths fresh![]() Welcome to our second edition of Kitchen Tip Tuesdays! Thank you to everyone who participated last week! I loved reading everyone's handy tips. :) My tip this week is about how I keep my dishcloths fresh. I'm sure it isn't anything novel, but I love knowing that my dish rags are all fresh and clean! During the course of a day, we usually get out 1-3 (or more, depending on what we're doing) dishcloths. Wiping childrens' faces, cleaning up messes, cooking, and washing dishes... our dish rags are well-used! :) At night time, before I go to bed, I rinse out all the dish rags with hot water. I wring them out and hang them on the sink, or stove (or even clothesline, if it's nice outside) to dry. In the morning, I put all of the dry, dirty dish rags in with the dirty laundry. Then throughout the day, I get out fresh ones as needed. I never have to guess how long a dishcloth has been out, because it's never longer than a day, and never long enough to start smelling icky! :) Before I did this, my dishcloths would end up smelling awful, and I would resort to using bleach every time I washed whites. Now, I very rarely use bleach, and they still smell great! :) To participate in Kitchen Tip Tuesdays: Post a kitchen tip in your blog, with a link to this post. Then come here and add your name, tip subject, and URL to this post! Links must be family friendly, as always. If you don't have a blog but would still like to share a tip, just leave a comment here with your tip! Thanks for participating! :) Kitchen Tip Tuesdays Participants If you don't already have a fire extiguisher in the kitchen, keep baking soda by the stove for quick access in the case of a grease fire. The soda quenches the flames. Better tip, carefully watch the oil in the frying pan so it doesn't become too hot! :) -Mrs. Marks why haven't I thought of that years ago!! I started doing it last night:) One of my younger sons always puts the "yucky" dishrag in our rag hamper and gets a new one. I can now retrain him to get the ones haning on the stove and put those in the laundry and put a new one up...what a great idea. Such simple things! Tammy, I have been doing this for a few years now! I used to use sponges and all they do is start to smell icky after a while...I finally decided to buy washcloths and I just cycle through about 2 dozen of them every week! :) The washer and dryer are in my kitchen, so all I have to do is throw the old ones in the hamper from at the sink, and I can pull a new one out of the drawer! Nice smelling, no moldy smell. It's nice! I left my URL but I just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying these tips. Some of them I already do, some I have heard of before and just forgot and others are new (and great!!). Thanks for this! *Michigan Momma* Post new comment |

Tammy, I do almost the same thing. I use a dishrag one day and let it dry and then put it in the dirty laundry. I have a lot of dishrags. I got the idea from you to use old socks and they are working great! Thanks!
