Too much cooking for one day :)

This is what my kitchen table looked like at midnight tonight! The huge piece of strawberry shortcake was my "reward" for getting the kitchen completely cleaned!

I'm not exactly sure what I was thinking this morning, but I started cooking bright and early and started just a few too many things.

We were completely out of granola, so I made a batch of Cinnamon Crunch Granola and a batch and a half of my regular granola. Then I made Yehoshua's belated birthday cake (since he had cookies on his birthday instead), a strawberry shortcake.

THEN I started a double batch of homemade bagels, so I can put some in the freezer. And Joshua helped me make some baked doughnut holes. (Those still need iced!)

Joshua also grilled chicken for our dinner tonight -- yummy! :) Besides all the cooking, the children and I hung out two loads of laundry and washed lots and lots of dishes. It was a busy day, but now I don't feel quite so far "behind". It's rather frustrating to not have any quick snacks or breakfast items on hand. I'm hoping in the future to do better about making granola as soon as we run out!

I just recently found your blog. I have been enjoying it a lot. There are quite a few recipes I want to try out. Do you have a recipe for the baked doughnut holes?

WOW, you sure were busy! Can I come over for breakfast?!
I really wanted to get some things done in my own kitchen this weekend, but I couldn't resist the pull of the outdoors and our first weekend of nice weather! The snow is almost melted!

Good job Mom!

That all looks yummy!

I love your blog!

Hi Tammy,

I've been reading your blog for a few months, and I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy it. Of all the different blogs I read, this one makes me feel the most comfortable or at home :) I guess maybe because we have similar interests and you seem to be an easy going person. I just felt like I needed to tell you that you are encouraging and uplifting and I am blessed to get to read your words :) Thanks so much!

That was alot of baking! You sure deserved the strawberry shortcake!

I was wondering if you have any favorite cookie bar recipes that you like? i like to make bar cookies sometimes instead of cookies as they are time consuming!

Baked Doughnut Holes

Pretty please with sugar on top, share the Baked Doughnut Holes recipe!!! We have really enjoyed all the recipes I have made from your site and I am confident that these Doughnuts will be scrumptious!

Thanks Tammy for such a

Thanks Tammy for such a wonderful blog. I like to have a cup of mint tea and read it when time allows. I have tried many of your recipes and they have been delicious. One thing that is nice about many of the recipes is that I have many if not all of the ingredients on hand. Also the recipes are pretty easy to change if necessary. Visiting your site is a lot like checking out everyones cookbooks! :) I have just recently found out that I am wheat intolerant and I need to remove it from my diet. Not an easy task as many products use wheat/flour. I am really enjoying this new path that God has me on though because I am now experimenting with new recipes with different types of flour...rice, rye, oatmeal and using cornmeal a lot more!! Anyhow to the question I have!!! :) I read in your recipe for granola that you use wheat germ, do I need to use that or is there a good sub for that? In the reviews a lady said she used flax meal. What is that? Is there something else that I could use that is wheat-free?

Donut holes and granola answers :)

Yes, Dana (or anyone else!), come on over for breakfast! :D

The donut holes was a recipe we were creating ourselves. We're still working on the glaze recipe. So hang in there... I can't give a recipe that hasn't been perfected yet! ;) The chocolate glaze was fabulous though. Mmmmm...

Cookie bars... not really. Besides the cinnamon graham squares (which are sort of like a cookie), I've never made cookie bars (that turned out okay). Sorry! I'd love some good recipes for that sort of thing myself!! :) Let me know if you find any, Martha! :)

Mrs. Johnson, in the granola, you can put something else in place of the wheat germ. Chopped nuts, coconut, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, basically stuff like that (even cornmeal, since I see you mentioned that). Flax meal is just ground flaxseed, and it's a healthy source of fiber and has a nutty flavor. That would work well for a substitute, also. Or, just omit the wheat germ! It's a flexible recipe. :)
