I generally wash the dishes right before bed; I like to wake up to a counter full of dry, clean dishes that I can put away in the morning! :)
Because of my dish-washing method, I usually end up with a small amount of fresh, hot water after I've rinsed my last few dishes.
I add a little soap to the water, and use my dish cloth to do a quick-mop in the kitchen. You know, the spots like under the baby's high chair, or by the 2-year-old's seat... just a little section or a few dirty spots. If I'm really energetic, I might end up mopping half the floor, rinsing my rag in the sink as needed.
Then, I let out the water, wring out the dish rag, and put the rag in the dirty laundry basket. I get out a clean dish cloth for the next day. ;)
I use my hand-held vacuum for crumbs after meal times, and doing this quick-mop before bed results in a fairly clean floor for the next day. I usually dread mopping the "whole kitchen" but doing a quick-mop works for me! :)

Great tip!
Wonderful tip. This would definitely make mopping the whole floor easier since you're mopping so frequently. I'm going to try this!

Great idea!
What a great idea! I struggle with keeping the floors clean because of my two messy eaters (age 4 years and 16 months).
Thanks!
Late Night Quick Mop
Good Idea! Clean dishes, clean floor!
quick mop
I'll try it, I use the quick mop with the lysol antibacterial liquid, but it still doesn't feel as clean as I would like!

Feed?
Sorry, back again, have you considered setting up a RSS feed? Contact me if you need help, but it would make your site accessible to those who use news readers (like me, lol). It's so much easier for me to read through bloglines.com than to keep checking bookmarks.
Love it!
It's always the simple things that I seem to miss. That's a great idea. Thanks for the tip.
BTW: Not sure how I've missed your blog before, but it's really helpful. Gonna have to bookmark it!
Nice! I think I might try
Nice! I think I might try this tonight, thanks for the tip.

Quick Mop
Fabulous suggestion. I have a large kitchen and mopping can take awhile. I like this idea.
Thanks! Kathleen http://strandedinthemountains.blogspot.com/

This is a wonderful idea! I do this sometimes after I splash water on the floor from washing dishes (seems to be every time I wash dishes. I never thought about purposely doing it though. It will save you time and water! Thanks for sharing!

I wish I could get into the habit of doing things like this, but I am so exhausted by the time it gets to evening that I am just ready to drop.

Thanks for all the sweet comments!
Zoe, I completely understand the "exhausted" feeling... I happen to be more of a night owl, so for some reason even if I've felt drained all day, I get a little burst of energy before bed. :P :D

I've been doing just the same thing lately, oddly enough. A white floor shows all sorts of dirt!
Clean Floors Tonite!
I just wanted to say that I put this tip into practice tonite and my floors are shining. Charlie, who has autism, has this thing about wanting his two wheeler bike in the house and the tire marks on the floor just bug the heck out of me. Well, they're all gone! I added some spic and span to my dish water and the floors look great and now I am so excited I can't sleep! LOL. Thanks for a great morning tomorrow.
Late night quick mop :)
Brandy, that's neat; we had the same idea! :D
