Focaccia Fun

Make-shift Focaccia

This morning, I really got busy in the kitchen. I hadn't washed the dishes last night, so I tackled those first, with the help of Eliyahu. I got a chicken in the oven and started some homemade roll dough in the bread machine. For once, I had actually completely followed the recipe for the rolls, which was a recipe given to me at my bridal shower that I'd saved and never made.

At 10, I headed out grocery shopping with my mom and the children. My mom comes and picks us up and we go grocery shopping together! It's such a blessing, since I hate grocery shopping and would put it off terribly if I weren't being escorted.

I got back home shortly after noon, to the smell of burning chicken. I guess my chicken was a little too large for the dish I used, because it ran over and the top of the chicken burned to the lid! Oh well... I pulled the chicken out, turned on the exhaust fan for the oven, and got my roll dough out of the bread machine.

The roll dough was really sticky (you know, I think it's best to not try new recipes while you're out grocery shopping) and I was in a hurry to get lunch on the table, so I just spread the dough out on a jelly roll pan.

Then, I had the bright idea of making it into focaccia, since I'd been wanting to make focaccia ever since I saw a picture of it on Marcia's blog. I double-checked in my Italian cook book, and decided to spread the top with oil and sprinkle thyme and rosemary.

It actually turned out okay, although I think it would have tasted better made into dinner rolls. Eliyahu, who is quite the little food-thief these days, got up on a chair and started picking in the focaccia. Yehoshua joined him (on the same chair, even!) and I thought they were so cute together, that I let them continue eating while I took a few pictures. ;)
