Where do you get your pizza?

frozen

I never buy frozen any more. It is just so expensive and not any good. We have a CiCi's in town and if we ever get pizza to go it is only $5 for a true large (not those new wimpy larges!). My hubby will get that every once and awhile. However homemade is the BEST! Last night we ate homemade at a friends and it was REALLY good!

Frozen pizzas

I remember when we were first married, we could get semi-okay frozen pizzas on sale for 79 cents or something like that... so we had some on occasion, but them we never found very good sales, and we have gotten better and faster at making our own pizza. Now we're disappointed with restaurant pizzas or frozen pizzas, we like our own so well! :)

Homemade/Restaurant

Panagos has good pizza and we pick it up there once in a while. I like making homemade pizza too.
We've maybe bought one or two frozen pizzas from the store in my whole life. Just isn't something that really appeals to me. :P

Frozen and homemade

I prefer the taste of homemade, but I will use frozen. Frozen is more expensive, especially since I end up "adding extras" to make it tase better. I am still trying to efficiently prepare homemade crusts so that time will not be an issue, which is the reason for 99% of the frozen pizza consumption in my home!

Homemade now :)

Since I made pizza using Tammy's recipe, it is hard to buy it now! I made pizza today for lunch and it was just so good. :)

It depends!

The Charcoal Grill here in Wisconsin has a really neat deal on Tuesday nights on buy one get one personal pizzas. Since they're about 7.50 each, that's 3.25 each split up. I can't make a pizza at home that cheaply, I don't think! The pizzas Aaron and I usually get are pizzas like Buffalo Chicken pizza, Thai Pizza, etc. Pizzas that can't be made cheaply...

My excuse for frozen pizza is that I'm pregnant, and honestly, I'm lazy. When I want to eat, I want it ready 2 hours ago! :) Also, Aaron's mom works for Kraft, so we get some killer deals on Kraft products (yee haw Velveeta!)

Went to the store today

I am going to make your pizza this week! I have made many homemade pizzas but am looking forward to trying yours. I have not made one in quit awhile (having a baby really hinders ones baking!) so I look forward to trying this one.

sauce

My only problem with my homemade pizza is the sauce and lack of creativity with toppings, although that can easily be worked on.

I use jarred spaghetti sauce and even add some seasonings but it still tastes kind of bland. I like Papa John's sauce the best. I'm sure it's probably loaded with sugar or something not good for you.

we usually make our pizza

we usually make our pizza aswell but its never regular!

We usually eat frozen

I just haven't got the knack for making a good crust. It always ends up soggy and I can never get it as thin as I want. We usually like the thin and crispy crusts when we eat out, Domino's is our favorite. We love their cheese steak pizza. I'll keep experimenting I guess.

Soggy pizza crusts

Amy, my homemade pizza recipe has a pre-baked crust and it's never soggy! (This is a different recipe from "Tammy's Easy Pizza") You can also roll the dough pretty thin, because it's rolled with a rolling pin instead of just being pressed out on the pan! :)

We sometimes pre-bake the crust, then spread butter on the bottom, put our toppings on top, and bake. The crust is buttery and crispy that way! :)

Jenn in Kansas, we use homemade pizza sauce, which has a flavor we like. Adding just a little sugar seems to tone down the acidic taste in store-bought sauces. At least, we prefer that! :)

Andrea, I have a bread machine... that makes the pizza dough really easy ;)

Shorty, I hope you like it!!

Thanks for all the votes and input, everyone! I love hearing about what you all like to do/eat! :D

I found a pizza pan with holes

in it for a quarter. I made Tammy's Easy Pizza and divided the dough in half. I put half on the holey pan and half on the regular pizza pan (from when hubby and his dad ran a pizza place). The pan with holes in it definitely made a difference. Now if I can only find another one! Thanks for the help, maybe I can master this pizza thing after all.

Soggy Crusts? Possible solution

A possible solution for soggy crusts is to use a pizza pan with "holes" in it. Here is an example of such a product, and you can browse a huge selection here. We recently purchased a pan like these and it helps prevent moisture from the heated pizza from condensating on the underside of the pizza between the pie and pan.

difference

Can you tell me more about the differences in your two kinds of pizza? Thanks

Difference between two pizzas...

Shorty, the "homemade pizza crust" is pre-baked for 5-7 minutes before toppings are added. Then it's baked for another 15-20 minutes. "Tammy's Easy Pizza" is a crust where you spread out the dough, add the toppings, and then bake only one time. :)

We moved to the country 3

We moved to the country 3 years ago (had always lived in big cities before) and the nearest pizza place is 27 miles away. They definitely do not deliver and it is really not practical to go pick it up. I had tired homemade when I first got married and I was not happy with the results and did not try again until a couple of years ago from a recipe I found in a Taste of Home magazine and we loved it and are now homemade pizza regulars. We had it last night as a matter of fact! I usually put lots of veggies and Turkey Pepperoni.....am going to try Tammy's Pepperoni recipe hopefully someday soon.

homemade pizza

amyd, Yay! Your new pan sounds like it's helping! :) Pizza, once you can make it well, is an easy meal and most people enjoy it. :)

Shoshana, we used to live closer to the grocery store (we could walk there!) but now that it's 5 miles away (still not too far really) we aren't as quick to make an extra trip there. :) It saves us money! ;)

my answer wasn't available

we do frozen or restaurant. rarely homemade. we have frozen pizza and salad on wednesday because we rush out the door for awana when my husband gets home and it's easy to eat quickly and take along if need be. other than wednesdays, we get papa johns occasionally.

a little of each

We do frozen or restaurant more than homemade, but I love to make it myself. (my boyfriend loves when I do it myself too) I cheat and use a refrigerated crust (already made) but I make the sauce myself. I don't like to use the jar/can sauce anymore. Eventually I'll do the crust myself too :)

I'm switching over from frozen pizza to homemade

i always had frozen pizza or from a restaurant but now i never get frozen pizza i prefer to make my own or i always get pizza from the costco food court!

it all depends

Sometimes I am just in a hurry and don't want to dirty up the kitchen, so I'll pick up a frozen pizza... actually more so lately, I'm not buying whole frozen pizzas, but rather "Bagel Bites" because if you only fix a serving, they aren't bad calorie wise. I usually pair them with something else. If I do make a frozen pizza, I try to find a good individual one, because there are just two of us, and both of us may not want pizza (I could eat pizza everyday!)

Other times, I'm wanting to just go ahead and let the restaurant take care of it (though less and less these days, as I'm focusing on eating healthier) - We have this local place that makes an awesome pizza, and it's super cheap. It's kind of a NY style pizza and it's huge!!! I kid you not, their Large pizza in the box will just barely fit in the backseat of my car! (Just your normal 4 door midsize car) and is only about $12... I mean, I can feed an army with that!

However, after finding your pizza crust recipe here Tammy, I have began to make homemade pizzas more and more. I like that the dough freezes well. I throw a batch in the bread machine, then divy up into smaller portions, that way I can make individual pizzas. Recently we made some changes in our house to eat lower sodium, and I love that your crust is easily adaptable to that. Paired with what I have finally mastered is the best pizza sauce (a little sweet/ a little spicy/low sodium) and presto... pizza is healthy! woohoo!
