The meanings of our childrens' names

Yehoshua in Hebrew

Our oldest son is named Yehoshua Timothy.

"Yehoshua" means, "Yahweh saves". Yehoshua is the Hebrew name of the Biblical person known (in English) as "Joshua, son of Nun" (from the book of Joshua). Above is what "Yehoshua" looks like in Hebrew. It is pronounced "yeh-hoe-shoo-uh".

"Timothy" means, "Honoring God". We wanted to use a New Testament middle name from a person of high moral character, and we also wanted to honor Joshua's dad, Tim.

Eliyahu in Hebrew

Our second son is named Eliyahu Stephen.

"Eliyahu" means "My God is Yahweh". Eliyahu is the Hebrew name of the Biblical person known (in English) as Elijah the prophet (for example, 1 Kings 18). Above is "Eliyahu" spelled in Hebrew. Eliyahu is pronounced "el-lee-YAH-hoo".

"Stephen" means "Crowned". Again, we wanted a New Testament middle name from a person of high moral character, and we also wanted to honor my dad, Stephen.

I love your sons names, and

I love your sons names, and the meanings. Also very cool to see them written out in Hebrew.

My dh is from Ethiopia where everybody has a name that is spiritually meaningful, even if they are no longer Christian.
Our first is Asrat, which means tithe. Our second is Gebreyesus, which means servant of Jesus. :D I can't wait to see what my husband comes up with for the rest of our children.

Are you going to use Hebrew names for all of the children you may have?

Meanings of names

Anonymous, some day we just might do that! :)

Maggie, looks like you've been "caught" ;) I like your childrens' names! Does your husband take full responsibility for the naming of your children? Joshua and I discuss names, but we like the same ones! So it's been really easy to decide. :) And, I don't mind letting him make the decision, anyway. :)

We do plan to use Hebrew first names for all of our children. We'd like to use Old Testament first names and New Testament middle names. :) We're so balanced! lol :D

Hi!

I love the meanings of your sons names and the idea of Old Testament first names/New Testament middle names is really neat! It is also really sweet the way you were able to give them strong names and still be able to honor your fathers :).

Love the middle names and the way your fathers' names fit right in. : )
