Making sure I drink enough water

Yehoshua puts on a circus show for me

I feel so much better when I've been drinking lots of water during the day, but so often I feel like I'm simply too busy to take the time to get a glass of water or re-fill my water bottle (one-handed, while holding a baby)!

Here is my solution:

I got a huge water bottle (pictured on the right, above) from the store* and I only have to fill it up twice each day. It holds 2 quarts; I'm breastfeeding and get thirsty a lot!

I can usually remember if I've filled it twice. So no more forgetting if I've drank enough water!

It also has a semi-spill-proof top, which is great since I always leave it open (those things are so hard to open one-handed!) and we have little ones in the house.

The other water bottles are for Joshua. We wash them and re-fill them, and he takes them to work or upstairs or wherever. We both get thirsty a lot. What works for us is making the water easily accessible!

*I know, so un-frugal of me! It actually cost $2 at Wal-mart.

P.S. I thought you all might like to see Yehoshua (2.5) and his little tractor parade. After all, a photo of just water bottles is rather boring!

I have a huge cup that I drink out of (when I am being good and drinking my water). It does help to only have to remember to fill something twice as opposed to keeping track of 6 or was that 7 glasses of water!

I need to do this!

I have an awful nasty terrible Dr. Pepper habit that NEEDS to be broken. Cold turkey seems to be the only answer. Argh. I will look for that container at Wal Mart when I go. I think this will help me alot.

Dr Pepper Habit

I have struggled with this, too. DP can be very addictive. To make kicking the habit easier I bought a few bottles of the clear, fruit flavored soda from Walmart/Sam's Club (their brand). It comes in strawberry, peach and other flavors. It's not DP, but I find that the fizziness mimicks the feeling. After a few days of drinking these sodas I transitioned more easily to plain water (with lemon). Hope this helps!

I have to get one of these

I have to get one of these for at home and one for school. That way I could do half at work and half after. I get so thirsty at work from all the talking, but alas, bathroom breaks are few and far between! I must get better about this! Don't want to end up a teacher statistic with kidney problems!

Oh now that seems like a good idea...

I will try the fruit flavored waters! Thank you!

Michele

Great solution!

I struggle with drinking enough water too! I think I need one of those big jugs! If I have it sitting next to me, I know I'll drink it!!

I keep a clear pitcher of water in the middle of my table with a glass next to it. When I drink a glass, I refill it again. The full glass on the table reminds me to keep drinking through the day.

I hate drinking room

I hate drinking room temperature water, so what I do is just keep refilling my one water bottle all day long. I don't particularly enjoy just plain water (in the summer it's fine), but I LOVE lemon water. It is expensive and inconvenient to have fresh lemon on hand all the time, but I discovered something wonderful called True Lemon. It is packets (like sugar) of crystalized lemon. I can get them at the local discount store for $1.99 for a package of 40. I prefer drinking this to anything else and it is good for you.

Excellent idea! I've been

Excellent idea! I've been trying to jack up my water drinking the last few weeks, and now I don't even need the lemon, and it feels so good to know I'm doing "something" good for my body. I've also noticed that bodily functions really do work alot more smoothly when theres more water in your system!

Drinking water and True Lemon

Thanks for all the great comments, everyone :)

Michele, I hope you have success in beating the Dr. Pepper habit! Bad habits are so much easier to make than break! :( Part of my drinking a lot of water is to keep me from eating too much sugar! :|

To the commenter who mentioned True Lemon, I have heard of that, (my siblings have some) though I've never used it! I like lemon water, but I also like plain water, so I just do what's easiest and cheapest for me! :)

I used to only like my drinking water cold, but I made myself drink it at room temperature and now I don't mind. I also find that I can actually drink a lot more water when it's room temperature. When it's cold or even cool, I can only drink small amounts at a time. :) Joshua drinks his water the same way I do (actually, he's the one that started it ;D) so it's easy for me. :)
