Guest chef Samantha shares Apple Ladder Loaf recipe!

Apple Ladder Loaf recipe

I'm delighted to welcome our newest guest chef, Samantha R.! She made this delicious-looking Apple Ladder Loaf and offered to share the recipe with us! Samantha says that although this dessert takes a while to make, it's definitely worth the effort because it's just so delicious!

Apple Ladder Loaf is a braided sweet bread filled with spicy apple filling and drizzled with icing. Samantha says, "This pretty loaf makes a perfect dessert topped with a scoop of ice cream!"

Samantha is a Christian from northern California and is the twin sister of another guest chef, Jaclynn. Samantha enjoys cooking/baking and likes trying new recipes as often as possible, which, she says, is why she likes this website. :)

"I've been cooking/baking for as long as I can remember. ;-) Well, I guess I really got started around the age of 10. It's one of my favorite hobbies because the possibilities are practically endlesss! My twin sister and I switch off cooking the meals each week and I'm always trying new recipes and trying to come up with creative ideas to make more food for less money. Which isn't always easy with 4 boys in the house (3 are very active growing teeenagers!!)!"

Samantha is 21 years old and lives at home with her parents, 2 sisters and 4 brothers. On their 10 acres, thay have 4 goats, a beef steer, 2 chickens, 2 cats and 3 dogs. Their most recent addition is Crickett, "a blue Queensland Heeler female whom they are training to be the best puppy ever! ;-)"

Samantha graduated in 2002 (homeschooled) and went on to take a course from GIFAM and earned her Master Herbalist certificate. She and her sister have started their own natural health consultation business called Jubilant Health!

this today. It is very good, but I had a hard time understanding how to weave the strips for the top. :( Anyway I did my version and it is delicious, so I will try again. Just wondering if anyone can explain it better for me. :) Thanks!!

Joshua, you are hilarious!!

I will make it for you soon. :) I was going to make it on Friday, but I only had one apple. :) Don't worry, we'll get to try it soon. :) "Has my tongue dancing" just cracked me up! lol

I made this today and it was wonderful. I cut everything in half and just made one. I used half fresh apples and half canned pie filling. I didn't actually weave mine as much as just criss-crossed them. It worked and none even spilled out while cooking...yipeee!

Well worth the time and effort!

Samantha, we really appreciate you sharing the recipe! Looks like people are already making it!! :)

Tanya, glad yours turned out! Did you braid or weave? Maybe in your review of the recipe, you can describe it better for us! (Or I can, after I make it!) :D

Anonymous: Glad you liked it! Now you've made me REALLY want to try this!! :D

Heather, welcome! Your fruit salad picture looks delicious! :)

I probably can't even repeat it. LOL I had done it all wrong...Ok, I'll write how I did it. I was thinking of a braid, so when I read strips, I thought I needed to cut long strips along the length, but soon discovered that I must be wrong, so I just sort of weaved the strips over the top and pressed the edges along the length together. It actually looked good, considering I did it wrong. LOL Anyway, I plan to make it again this week and do it the right way!!! :) My parents came over that night and my mom said it was good and looked good too. She explained how I was suppose to do it. Just shows I never made this before!!

Tanya, okay, that makes sense! Well, as long as it tasted good and the filling didn't all run out while you baked it, that's good! :) I think I'm going to make this on Friday. :D

Wondering if this loaf can be frozen sucessfully?

I'm not sure! I imagine the bread part would freeze wonderfully (since it's a sweet dough like my cinnamon rolls, and they freeze great!) but I'm not sure what would happen to the filling in this loaf. Anyone know? :)

I think it would freeze ok, apple pie freezes well. Just a thought! :) ~Tanya
