Chocolate-Bottom Banana Squares

Chocolate swirl banana bread squares topped with chocolate chips

24 squares

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups mashed banana (about 3 medium bananas)
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup baking cocoa
1 cup chocolate chips

1. In mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add egg, vanilla, and bananas, beating thoroughly.

2. In a separate bowl, combine flour, soda, baking powder, and salt. Add to creamed mixture and mix well.

3. Divide batter in half. Add the cocoa to one portion of the batter. Spread that portion in the bottom of a greased 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Spoon remaining batter on top, swirling gently with butter knife if desired, and sprinkle with chocolate chips.

4. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until batter tests done with a toothpick or fork. Cool and cut into 24 squares.

Banana bread for chocolate lovers! These delicious cocoa banana bread squares are topped with chocolate chips, which makes them pretty irresistable for someone like me. ;) I think this is easy to make and makes a great not-so-sweet dessert (though they are a little sweet, of course!). My rating: 9/10.

Just like a banana split minus the ice cream
This was so good, I'm recommending it to others. We loved it.

delicious!
I've made this twice, and it has turned out wonderfully both times! I love the combination of chocolate and banana. :)

really yummy!
My 9 year old and I made these banana squares today. Daughter enjoyed the baking process and enjoyed even more eating one! As a childcare provider, I am always looking for recipes that I can prepare WITH children that will also be enjoyed by the children in my care. This one is a keeper!

Banana goodness
We just love banana bread, muffins, cake, shakes, cookies...And this one is very good. I did have trouble getting half the batter to spread into a 9 x 13 so I put it into a 10 inch round, then added the second layer. Of course I had to bake it longer, about 40 minutes. What a delicious smell waiting for it to come out. This one did not let us down. Yummy!

Yummy
We loved this, and it stayed moist for 5 days! Although I have to admit I am surprised it lasted that long - I blame the lemon meringue pie. This recipe was easy and delicious. The day after I made it company stopped in for coffee and I served it to them quite confidently - sending them home with the recipe. I will definitely make this again!

Sweet and fun
A very nice twist on the normal banana bread/cake. This was SO easy to mix up, and easily met my sweet tooth's craving. :-)
